Nikke Naeme
Nikke Naeme is a multidisciplinary artist based in Amsterdam, with a strong connection to music, graphic art and painting. Inspired by life, death, popular culture and human behavior, his work often returns to the human psyche and its darker, more twisted sides.
Painting, music and the mirrored self
Nikke Naeme often uses a stamping technique that gives his paintings a mirrored perspective, raising questions about identity, self-image and how we are seen by others. His visual work is supported by music that he writes and produces himself. Influences from modern art history can be traced in his work, from the somber tone of Bacon and the cartoonish energy of Steadman to the sketching of Donwood and the raw expressionism of Basquiat. Working intuitively with acrylics, ink and palette knives, Nikke follows the material and leaves space for unpredictable outcomes, much like the characters he paints.
