Theo Wolvecamp

A special sales exhibition of works on paper by Theo Wolvecamp from the collection of the Ambassade Hotel. Theo Wolvecamp (1925-1992) was a Dutch painter and graphic artist who was part of the CoBrA movement.

CoBrA

Artists mainly from Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands formed the international avant-garde movement CoBrA from 1948 to 1951. (CoBrA is an acronym of the capitals where the founders came from: Copenhagen, Brussels and Amsterdam).

The artists wanted to work in a free and spontaneous way; pure, intuitive, uninhibited and free of academic rules.
Theo Wolvecamp was not as prominent as other CoBrA artists such as Karel Appel and Corneille but he was greatly admired by his fellow artists. Theo Wolvecamp is also called the “silent force of CoBrA” and his work is the common thread in the CoBrA collection of the Ambassade Hotel.
