Nikke Naeme & Lotti van der Gaag ‘Cowboys In K-holes’

This exhibition brings together the work of contemporary artist Nikke Naeme and Lotti van der Gaag (1923–1999), an artist closely associated with the CoBrA movement. Both artists share an instinctive and expressive approach to exploring the human condition.

Naeme’s layered paintings examine identity, perception, and the complexities of the human psyche, while Van der Gaag’s imaginative works populate the world with hybrid beings shaped by fantasy and transformation. Together, their works create a dialogue that reveals striking parallels in their treatment of vulnerability, selfhood, and imagination.

Van der Gaag’s presence in this contemporary art exhibition is not merely historical. It raises enduring questions about visibility, recognition, and how artistic value is assigned over time, while offering a new perspective on the connections between her work and Naeme’s contemporary practice.

The exhibition opens on 29 August. We welcome you to join us at Herengracht 319 from 15:00 until 19:00.
